Protect yourself and others with our private COVID vaccination service.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic is behind us, the virus itself continues to affect the lives of vulnerable people across the country every year. Getting the COVID vaccine ensures that you are protecting yourself and your loved ones from possible serious illness.
Who should get vaccinated against COVID-19?
Our Private COVID-19 vaccination is available to most individuals aged 12 years and older who are not eligible for a free NHS vaccination. The vaccination provides lasting protection against the virus, particularly during the winter. We recommend that you get the COVID-19 vaccination, especially if you live or regularly visit older people, or people with a weakened immune system from underlying health conditions or treatments (e.g. chemotherapy).
You may not be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination if:
- You are unwell with COVID-19
- You have a high temperature
- You are feeling generally unwell due to any illness
- You are at risk of a severe allergic reaction
- You have recently recovered from COVID-19
How does the service work?
Select your nearest Rowlands Pharmacy and book an appointment at a time and date that suits you.
When you attend the appointment, your pharmacist will ask you some questions to make sure you are eligible for the vaccination. You will then pay for your vaccination.
The vaccination will be administered into your upper arm. If you've had a previous reaction, you may be asked to wait 15 minutes to ensure you don't have any reactions to the vaccination.
Am I eligible for a free NHS COVID jab?
If you fall into any of the categories below, you may be eligible* for a FREE NHS COVID jab:
- Are aged 75 or older
- Are aged six months to 74 years and have a weakened immune system from underlying health conditions or treatments (e.g. chemotherapy)
- Live in a care home for older adults
* Eligibility will be confirmed following consultation with a healthcare professional.
Frequently Asked Questions
COVID-19 is a coronavirus that infects the lungs and airways. It spreads through droplets when people cough, sneeze, or talk. While some experience mild cold-like symptoms, others can become seriously ill. Vaccination reduces the risk of severe illness and helps protect those around you.
The private COVID vaccination costs £85.00.
Common side effects are mild and include:
• Soreness or redness at the injection site
• Mild fever or chills
• Fatigue or headache
• Muscle or joint pain
These side effects usually go away within a few days. Serious side effects are very rare.
If you’ve ever had an allergic reaction, tell your pharmacist at your appointment before you’re vaccinated.
During your appointment, one of our trained pharmacists will ask some questions about your medical history and explain how the vaccine will work. The vaccine is administered as a small injection in your arm. You’ll stay for 15 minutes to ensure there are no immediate side effects.
If you've recently had COVID or experienced symptoms, please wait until you’ve recovered, as we cannot vaccinate anyone who currently has COVID-19 or who has had it within the last two weeks.
