Men's Health

Body

We want to highlight the importance of men's health and the services we provide to support the health and wellbeing of men and boys in our local community.

While it's true that we all have our own unique strengths and quirks, there's one thing we all share - our health. We should be aware of the risks associated with men's health issues and not be afraid to ask for help when we need it.

If you have concerns about your health, or someone else's health, whether it be physical or mental health, speak to us.

We need to talk more openly about men's health. We know there are some health conditions men are at a higher risk of developing, and we're here to raise awareness in order to reduce the risk and promote the health of all men.

You wouldn't leave your car without oil or water, you'd check your boiler before the winter season, and you probably know all the statistics for your favourite sports team. But what about yourself? Men, it’s time to give yourself an MOT!

What are common health concerns for men?

Items
Title
Heart disease
Body

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in the UK. The main causes of heart disease are high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Stress has a major part in some health conditions and due to men having more difficulty expressing their emotions they have a harder time when experiencing it.

Diabetes
Body

Diabetes is caused when the blood sugar level becomes too high, there's are two types: Type 1 and Type 2.  Type 1 cannot be avoided however type 2 can be avoided with life styles changes. Men store more fat around their stomachs and have an increased risk of high blood pressure therefore men aged between 35-54 are twice as likely to get diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Stroke
Body

Strokes are urgent medical emergencies, they are life-threatening as a stroke occurs when blood supply is cut off from part of the brain. The sooner a stroke is recognised, the better chance there is of survival. Living a balanced, healthy lifestyle and not smoking, or drinking excessively, can reduce the risk of a stroke.

Liver disease
Body

There are various types of liver disease, caused by different things, such as alcohol-related liver disease, hepatitis, haemochromatosis, and non-alcohol fatty liver disease. Symptoms of liver disease tend to not show in the early stages, often only showing when the liver is already damaged. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of liver disease.
