What are the symptoms of cystitis?

If you're experiencing pain, burning or urgency when peeing, dark or cloudy urine, or discomfort in your lower tummy, it could be a sign of this common bladder infection.

What causes cystitis?

Cystitis is usually caused by bacteria getting into the bladder through the urethra. This can happen from things like having sex, using tampons, or using certain contraceptives. Women are more prone to cystitis due to their anatomy.

What is the treatment of cystitis?

For mild cases, antibiotics may be offered to help clear up the infection quickly. Remember to stay hydrated, take pain relief medication, and avoid irritants like sex until you're feeling better.

How to prevent cystitis?

If you suffer from frequent cystitis, there are steps you can take to prevent it from coming back. Avoid using perfumed products around your genitals and opt for unperfumed ones. Stay hydrated, empty your bladder fully especially after sex, and always wipe front to back. Try wearing cotton underwear and avoid tight clothing. While some measures may help reduce the risk, their effectiveness is not guaranteed.

Can men get cystitis?

Yes, men can get cystitis, although it is less common than in women. Cystitis in males is commonly associated with underlying health conditions such as an enlarged prostate.
